FDA Approved Medications For Mental Health: Approval Process, Risks, Importance & Other Options

Why Certain Medications Need to Be FDA Approved

New drugs must be proven safe and effective to FDA’s satisfaction before companies are allowed to market them in interstate commerce.2 However, it is important to note that the FDA does not conduct these safety and efficacy tests themselves. Other documented side effects of benzodiazepines include: dizziness, nausea, restlessness, muscle pain, sexual dysfunction, drowsiness, inattention, nightmares, memory impairment, suicidal ideation, paranoia, and appetite changes.5
